It would have been a shame to tear them out, and replacing them with a similar grade cabinet would have cost. Longer term users commended the wash-clean, non-smudging finish, too. Instead of fresh classic white cabinets, to me, they look like dated oak cabinets that are trying to hide behind white paint.
Wood cabinets are ideal for painting, but any surface that can be scuffed with sandpaper can be painted.
As with most things in life, there's no one "right" way to do it, but there sure are lots of wrong ways!
