After reading everything I could find on this process online, I decided to use Stix Bonding Primer, and Cabinet Coat.
Stix® is a low VOC primer, which levels to a smooth surface and cleans up with soap and water. Ensure enough amount of product from one production batch in order to avoid some color differences. Time-saving tip: Painting cabinet doors (and similar large areas) may go faster if you use a foam or microfiber paint roller instead of a brush.
