Do You Install Flooring Under Kitchen Cabinets. Installing Floors Before Cabinets By installing the floor first there will be no need for using trim moldings against toe kicks unless the floor itself is far out of whack. But.cabinet installers use levels, hardwood installers do not.
The only times when we might recommend installing cabinetry first is when you are installing the floor and cabinets at separate times with long intervals in between, or if there is water damage. This will damage your new floor. Installing floors beneath your cabinets could cause wood to buckle when it tries to expand.
When you place your laminate flooring strips underneath your cabinetry, you make the process more burdensome.
There is another reason you may want to go with cheap subflooring beneath those cabinets and counters.
Floor covering, or finish flooring, is the surface that you see and walk on, not the subfloor (under the underlayment) or underlayment (between subfloor and finished layer). Floating floors are clicked together and not adhered to the floor. If you are installing a hardwood floating floor (or any floating floor such as cork or laminate), you should install the floor AFTER the kitchen cabinets are installed.
