Painting Kitchen Cabinets Chalkboard Paint. Left exposed, chalk paint flakes easily, so a wax or other topcoat is more than strongly advised. It has a matte finish and needs to be sealed.
I would recommend sanding and/or a coat (or two) of primer if you paint over cured wax. You can roll the paint on but I felt like brushing it on gave me a better result. Originally, I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old Whiteon the uppers and Duck Egg Blueon the lower cabinets.
I've used chalk paint to paint a couch and to paint my DIY pedestal table but never to paint cabinetry.
Chalk paint is usually low VOC and non-toxic With chalk paint, you typically don't need to sand, rarely need to prime, and can basically skip over the hard steps that usually scare people away from taking the plunge and painting something they desperately want to change.
Was a wax applied as a topcoat? I have to do touch ups just for wear at certain spots that get used a lot ie drawers. This type of paint adheres to surfaces extremely well, and does not chip, both of which are super helpful when painting kitchen cabinets.
